Sandra Marlene "Sandi" Gatewood

Sandra Marlene Gatewood, 84, of Westport, Indiana, passed away on March 15, 2026, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Born on February 11, 1942, in Westport, she was the daughter of Edward and Eileen (Voiles) Baldwin. Raised in her hometown, she graduated from Sandcreek High School in 1960 and served as clerk for Sandcreek Township from 1971 to 2014. A longtime member of the Westport Baptist Church, Sandi found joy in solving crossword puzzles, crocheting, tending her flower garden, and playing the keyboard for her church.

On February 11, 1959, she married Paul Aaron “Bill” Gatewood at the Westport Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on June 7, 2012. Sandi is survived by her daughters, Lisa (Don) Shumard of Columbus and Jennifer (Brad) Himes of Indianapolis; her sons, Paul A. Gatewood Jr., Kenneth (Susan) Gatewood, and Thomas (Ruby) Gatewood, all of Westport; her sister, Janet Redford of Westport; her brother, Mike (Jan) Baldwin of Columbus; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers Bennie Dale Baldwin and Reece Alan Baldwin, sister Karen Ann Baldwin, grandson Benjamin Gatewood, and granddaughter Ashley Steinhart.

She will be remembered for her quiet dedication to her family, her community, and the simple pleasures that brought her happiness throughout her long life in the town she always called home.
