Sandra Edwards Sincerbox

1946 — 2026

Knoxville, TN

Sandra Edwards Sincerbox, born April 19, 1946, passed away on March 11, 2026, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease and Lewy Body Dementia. Known affectionately as “Aunt Sassy” to her niece Grace Edwards and nephew Matt Edwards, Sandy was a devoted Advanced Placement English teacher at Fulton and Bearden High Schools, where she worked tirelessly to help her students master the craft of writing. An excellent student herself, she served as president of East High School’s Honor Society and was a member of Phi Mu Sorority at the University of Tennessee. She was remembered for her beautiful smile and for the empathy and encouragement she offered so freely to others.

In 1987, Sandy suffered severe head trauma in a head-on car collision that ended her teaching career. After recovering, she became the office manager for optometrist Dr. Stephen Smith. A faithful Christian, she maintained lifelong friendships with Carol Stalcup and Barbara Johnson, meeting with them monthly for Bible study, lunch, and prayer. She participated in Bible Study Fellowship until her illness prevented her from continuing, and she was a dedicated prayer warrior who inherited that gift from her grandmother. Sandy supported the ministry of her husband, the Reverend Deacon David Sincerbox, at Apostles Anglican Church, serving as a warm and thorough church greeter who made visitors feel genuinely welcome. She cooked for the sick and grieving, wrote countless cards of encouragement, and left her family with treasured, heartfelt messages.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lauton and Estelle Edwards. Sandy is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, David Sincerbox; her brother, Mike Edwards (Susan); and her nieces and nephews: Matt Edwards (Ellen) and their daughter Rosemary, Grace Edwards, Heather Kirby, MaryGrace Smith (Jonathan) and their children Madeline, Emma, Rosalyn, and Isaiah, and Rusty Kirby (Misty) and their daughters Eloise and Quinn.

The family is grateful for the loving care provided by the staff of the Nursing Center at Little Creek over the past two and a half years and by Amedisys Hospice during the final four months of her life.
