Samuel "Sam" Park Aldrich II, a devoted family man, respected community leader, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, in Dumas, Texas. Born on April 16, 1944, in Montrose, Colorado, Sam lived a life marked by dedication, service, and a profound commitment to those around him.Sam's formative years in Dumas, Texas, laid the foundation for his lifelong connection to the community. He graduated from Dumas High School in 1962 before pursuing higher education at Texas A&M University, where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees. His academic achievements were paralleled by his honorable military service. Sam served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army for three years, including active duty in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970—a testament to his courage and patriotism.Following his military service, Sam dedicated himself to a career with Aldrich's Menswear, working alongside his father, Samuel Park Aldrich Sr., eventually taking ownership of the family business. His contributions to the local economy and his keen business acumen ensured the store remained a respected fixture in Dumas.Beyond his professional life, Sam was deeply invested in civic engagement and community well-being. He held pivotal leadership roles as Chairman of the Dumas Parks Board and the Christmas Committee, demonstrating his passion for enhancing the quality of life in his hometown. For many years, he volunteered as an EMT and paramedic, sharing his expertise by teaching paramedic classes throughout the Panhandle region. A member of Rotary International, his spirit of service resonated widely.His profound faith was evident in his active involvement with the First Christian Church, where he served as an Elder. Sam's personal interests reflected a man of intellect and curiosity; he was an avid reader with a particular love for history, especially the Civil War. His dedication led him to visit nearly all Civil War battlefields, and he nurtured collections of edged weapons and coins, reflecting a lifelong passion for historical artifacts.On August 22, 19654, Sam married Lora Whitfield in Dumas, beginning a partnership that spanned decades. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lora Aldrich, and their three daughters: Stephanie Aldrich of Belton, Texas; Jennifer Cockrill and her husband Tony of Allen, Texas; and Lisa Barring and her husband Stephen of Lubbock, Texas. Sam was a proud grandfather to Sarah Feese and her husband Andrew, Gregory Carrell and his wife Elizabeth, Stephen Carrell and his wife Hayden, Lauren Trujillo and her husband Kevin, and Noah Lopez. His legacy extends further to his cherished great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Feese and Ethan Feese, who will carry forward the memory of their great-grandfather's warmth and wisdom.Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Park Aldrich Sr. and Harriet Aldrich, and his brother, Gregory Michael Aldrich.
