He was predeceased by: his parents, James Butler and Patricia Butler (Kirchner). He is survived by: his wife Brenda Butler; his sons, Sam Butler (Cathy) and Steven Allen Butler; and his siblings, Dave Butler (Mary), Susan "Sue" Freeze (Ben) and Sherri Stewart (Neil). He is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 11th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Billings Funeral Home (812 Baldwin St, Elkhart, IN 46514). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 11th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the same location. The military honors will be held on Wednesday, March 11th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Crane Cemetery.
