Greenville, MS
Sam Harold Lamb, Sr. was born on May 4, 1937, near Morgan City, Mississippi, the son of Bud Boswell Lamb and Claudia Idele Murphy. He spent his early years in the Greenwood Public Schools before his family moved to Gulfport. At seventeen he joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served with pride and rose to the rank of sergeant. After his military service he married and settled first in Jackson, later moving with his growing family to Greenville.
For most of his life Sam worked in construction, eventually establishing Lamb Construction Company in Greenville in the 1960s. In later years he applied his considerable practical knowledge to the Greenville Public Schools and the City of Greenville, solving plumbing, drainage, and infrastructure challenges with skill and ingenuity. Colleagues and friends remember him for his uncompromising work ethic, keen problem-solving ability, and his distinctive sense of humor that could lighten any room.
Sam was predeceased by his parents, his sister Evelyn Lamb Brown, his twin sister Carole Lamb Brent, and two sons, Steven Jay Lamb and Shannon Steadman Lamb. He is survived by two sons, Sam Lamb, Jr. of Jackson and Stanley R. Lamb of Greenville, eight grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
