Tierney Funeral Home, Inc. on Mar. 17, 2026.Salvatore "Sal" Grossi, 86, of Manchester, CT, entered into eternity on Sunday, March 15th, 2026.Born and raised in Lenola, Italy, where he learned his craft of tailoring and pattern making. Sal alongside his wife immigrated to the United States and became a proud American citizen in 1973.Sal was a professional tailor and pattern maker, where he worked his entire career in the garment industry. He could design and create and build a suit from the ground up.Sal worked for Hickey Freeman in Rochester, NY, for a few years when he first came to the United States and then moved to Bristol, CT, where he worked at G Fox company in Hartford, CT. Sal eventually moved and settled in Manchester, CT, where he worked at Manchester Modes, a garment manufacturer for many years. Together with his wife, raising a loving family. Sal eventually retired from the garment industry working for Jones New York based in West Haven, CT.Family was deeply important to Sal; his family meant the world to him. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed telling funny stories reminiscing of the good old days to friends and family, always making people laugh. Sal also enjoyed fishing with close friends, outdoor vegetable gardening, watching soccer games and alongside his wife, enjoyed hosting parties at their home with friends and family. Sal and his wife would spend winters in St. Augustine, FL.Sal is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Orlanda Grossi, his sons Jules (Becky) Grossi and Lou Grossi, his granddaughter Christina (Josh) whom he adored and was his pride and joy. Sal is also survived by his sister Anna, many nieces and nephews and close friends.Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours at John F. Tierney Funeral Home at 219 West Center Street, Manchester, on Saturday, March 21st from 9 - 10 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. James Church, 896 Main Street, at 10:30 a.m. The burial will take place immediately following at St. James Cemetery.The family has requested donations be made to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org).To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
