Sallie Halley ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Memphis Funeral Home on Mar. 16, 2026.Sallie Ruth (Snell) Halley, 93, of Memphis, Missouri, formerly of Huntsville, Missouri, passed away at the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, Missouri on March 15, 2026.Sallie was born on February 26, 1933, in Columbia, Missouri. She was one of eight children born to Homer Eugene and Ora Katie (Dodson) Snell. Sallie lost her father at the age of five when he was killed by a hit and run driver. Her mother remarried and they moved to Madison, Missouri where Sallie attended school and graduated from Madison High School in 1951. She was the Valedictorian of her class.Sallie worked for Homeway Restaurant in Moberly, Missouri as a waitress where she met the love of her life, Elmer Forrest Halley, who had just returned home from serving in the U.S. Navy in World War II. They were married on June 17, 1951, in Moberly, Missouri and shared 69 years of marriage together. Elmer preceded her in death in October of 2020. To this union four children were born: Linda Kay, Randall Earl, Lori Diane and Robyn Keith Halley.After marriage, they lived in Kansas City, Missouri, Marshall, Missouri and ended up in Huntsville, Missouri where they spent most of their lives. Sallie was a homemaker and full-time mother raising her four children. She was skilled at keeping the books of Elmer's business and became well known for her cooking skills including her fabulous pies, cinnamon rolls and casseroles. She frequently shared these with people in her community and church who just needed to know that someone cared. She was a woman of deep faith and was an active member of the Huntsville Baptist Church for over sixty years. She taught Sunday School, was active in WMU, sang in a lady's trio, adult choir, and helped with Vacation Bible School. She helped in the kitchen at church camp, church dinners and enjoyed visiting the local nursing homes and area shut ins. Sallie served as a hospital volunteer at Moberly Regional Medical Center for 36 years where she served on the MRMC Volunteer Committee to select from candidates for the MACC Nursing School Scholarship program. She also helped with bake sales and other events to raise money for equipment purchases for the hospital. She enjoyed baking, reading Christian books, and writing poetry. One of her poems written for a friend about their stillborn child became a book and served as inspiration and comfort to other struggling parents in the loss of a child. Sallie loved working crossword puzzles and sudoku. She enjoyed her iPad and was always looking up things. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and would sometimes invite her friends over to watch the game with her. In September of 2019, Sallie was awarded "Woman of the Year" by her community of Huntsville, Missouri. She later transferred her membership to Memphis First Baptist Church having moved to Memphis following the death of her husband and was active in Sunday School, church services and the Joy Group. She enjoyed eating at the SC Nutrition Center and visiting with her friends.She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers, James, Homer E. Jr., and Robert Snell; four sisters, Edith Bartmess, Katie Moore, Mary Koeber and Norma Robb; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Velma Halley.Those left to honor Sallie's memory include her children, Linda (Ron) Rooks, North Fort Myers, Florida, Dr. Randy (Janet) Halley, Reed Springs, Missouri, Lori (Joe) Fulk, Memphis, Missouri and Rob Halley of Nixa, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth Hocker (Kyle Walker), Matthew Hocker, Sara (Chuck) McGuire, Leah (Mike) Ghobrial, Michael Fulk, Jordan (Deanna) Fulk, Kathleen (Jeff) Luksza, Elsie Halley, and Leyna Halley. Two step grandchildren: Jeremy (Stacy) Price, Juliene (Andy) Miles; four great grandchildren, Liam Ghobrial, Wyatt Fulk, Ranger Luksza and Summer Luksza; seven step great grandchildren, Hudson and Colin Price, Noah and Lucy Miles, Emma and Zander Johnson and Haley Luksza; a sister- in- law, Barbara (Ray) Henderson, nieces, nephews, and many friends.The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home on Sunday, March 22,2026.A Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 23,2026 at the Memphis First Baptist Church.Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Missouri.An expression of sympathy in memory of Sallie may be left to the Scotland County Senior Center (Nutrition Site).
