She was predeceased by: her parents, Edward "Eddie" Suroski, Jr. and Virginia "Ginny" Suroski; and her daughter Hollie Elizabeth Meade. She is survived by: her husband Walter Garland Meade; her daughters, Crystal McCallister (Eric) and Tiffany Blankenship (Matt); her grandchildren, Kaileigh Peer (James), Dacoda Lucas and Hallie McCallister; her siblings, Danny Suroski (Samantha), Kathy Suroski, Carl Suroski (Pam) and Mike Suroski; her siblings' children, Anthony Woodyard, Thomas Woodyard, James Suroski, Brett Suroski, Gary Suroski, Eric Suroski and Sara Suroski; her aunt Nelda Clarke; her close friends, Linda Price and Donna Ford; Cody Lucas. She is also survived by many other cousins, friends, neighbors.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 11th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel (605 Snidow St, Pembroke, VA 24136). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 11th 2026 at 7:00 PM at the same location. During a time when the COVID-19 pandemic made placement in care facilities incredibly difficult, The Springs Nursing Center in Hot Springs, Virginia welcomed Ruth with open arms.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Ruth's memory are encouraged to make a donation to a charity of their choice in her name or plant a garden this spring with flowers that attract butterflies—one of Ruth's favorite simple joys.
