Ruth Shreeve Uhrig

Ruth Virginia Shreeve Uhrig, 106, passed away in Rancho Mirage, California, on February 18, 2026. Born on January 10, 1920, on her parents’ farm in Carroll County, she was the daughter of Wilbur and Virginia Armacost Shreeve. After graduating from high school in Reisterstown, Ruth attended the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore for four years. In the summer of 1938 she met Philip Uhrig, and the two married in June 1941. They became the devoted parents of Jeffrey and Jane, both of whom predeceased her, and the loving grandmother of John and Sarah Connor.

Following the war, Philip began a long career at Western Maryland College, now McDaniel College, in Westminster. Ruth and Philip formed many lasting friendships among the college’s staff, faculty, and students. Ruth brought her artistic talent to every aspect of life, whether through thoughtful home decor or her own accomplished work in watercolor and acrylics. Philip died in April 2010.

Ruth remained active in her church communities, first at the Church of the Ascension in Westminster and later at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in California, participating as long as her health allowed. She is remembered for her grace, creativity, and the quiet warmth she brought to everyone who knew her.
