Ruth Maxine Honaman, of Merrill, Michigan, passed away on March 13, 2026, at the age of 101.
Born in Fergus, Michigan, on January 4, 1925, to Gordon Clark and Lillie Warrichait, Ruth spent her entire life in Merrill. She was a devoted member of the Merrill Congregational Church and a proud Farm Bureau member who cherished the farming life. An accomplished quilter, she belonged to the Lakefield Quilters for decades, where her talent and passion for the craft were widely admired.
A lifelong “Vandal,” Ruth was a dedicated supporter of Merrill athletics, faithfully attending games and cheering for local teams with enthusiasm. She remained a strong advocate for veterans and her community throughout her life. During World War II, she served as a “Rosie the Riveter,” contributing to the war effort with pride and diligence.
Ruth married Gerald Honaman on June 8, 1946. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1980. She is survived by her daughter Carol (Robert) Kennedy of Merrill, her son David (Robin) Honaman of Hemlock, seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her grandson Maxwell Honaman and her siblings and their spouses.
