Ruth Lovaas

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Ruth Lovaas of Grand Marais, Minnesota, who passed away on February 28, 2026, at the age of 98, leaving to mourn family and friends. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Ruth Lovaas to pay them a last tribute.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Andrew Shold and Esther Alfreda Shold (Backlund); her husband Donald Lovaas; her siblings, Rueben, Lloyd, Lester, Roger, David, Erland, Betty Brummer, Bernice Howard and Fern Lovaas; and her children-in-law, Tim Nelson and Carol Lovaas.

She is survived by: her children, Jean Nelson, Jim Lovaas (Wendy), Julie Birgersson (Peter), Steve Lovaas (Nancy) and Mark Lovaas; her grandchildren, Lisa Ricke (Reese), Lydia Nelson, Jonathan Lovaas (Shandelle), Michael Lovaas and Claire Lovaas; and her brother Walden Shold (Gail). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews; and dear, close friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 21st 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Grand Marais Evangelical Free Church (120 5th St, Grand Marais, MN 55604). A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 21st 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.

Memorials are preferred to Grand Marais Evangelical Free Church.
