Ruth K. Douglas, a cherished and loving mother, sister, and aunt, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, at Unity Hospital in Rochester, the city where her remarkable journey began on December 12, 1925. Her life was marked by a tender spirit and unwavering devotion to her family and the community she embraced with open arms.

Born and raised in Rochester, Ruth built a distinguished career working in many upscaled restaurants throughout the area, where her dedication and warmth left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her passion for excellence and love for people were as genuine as the care she extended to those she held dear.

Ruth is survived by her devoted children, son Robert Scranton and daughter Sandra Scranton, whose lives she enriched with her boundless love and wisdom. Her legacy lives on in her beloved grandchildren—Michael Davis, Nicole Girardello, and Brandi Johnson—who carry forward her spirit of kindness and resilience. The family circle is further blessed by the presence of her nieces Judy Wyatt, Gail Ulscht, Bernice Smith, and Cindy Decarolis, along with many other nieces and nephews, all of whom were touched deeply by Ruth's nurturing presence.

She was predeceased by her loving parents, Charles and Grace Kaiser (Hendrix), whose memories she treasured always, as well as her sister and brother-in-law, Bernice and John Bertola, and her niece, Beverly Offen. Though they have gone before her, their spirits remain forever intertwined with hers in the hearts of all who knew them.

Ruth’s warmth, compassion, and dedication as a caring and loving mother, sister, and aunt will forever be etched in the memories of those fortunate enough to have shared in her journey. Her gentle soul brought light into the lives of many, offering comfort and strength that resonated beyond words.

A viewing to honor Ruth’s life will be held on March 20, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until noon at the New Comer Funeral Home, Westside, located at 2636 Ridgeway Ave, Rochester, NY 14626. This will be followed by her funeral service at the same location, beginning at 12:00 p.m. and concluding at 1:00 p.m., where friends and family will gather to celebrate the profound impact she had on all who knew her.
