We bid farewell to Ruth Ellen Mayfield of Cairo, Illinois, whose journey of life gracefully concluded on February 25, 2026 at the age of 82. Ruth touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in hearts. She was predeceased by: her parents, Bessie Johnson and Calvin Johnson; her husband Durby; her children, Martha Ann and Stanja; and the parents of child, Bessie and Calvin.

She is survived by: her children, Felicia Mayfield of Antioch, TN, Durrenda Johnson (Kenny) of Cairo, Deborah Harris (Leon Aveary) of Antioch, TN, Latorius Mayfield (Trina) of Cairo, IL and Demetrica Thompson (Tony) of Antioch, TN.; her brother Thomas Johnson (Stephanie) of Chicago, IL; her half-sisters, Doris McGee of East Chicago, Indiana., Darlene Fleming of East Chicago, Indiana. and Joyce Richardson of East Chicago, Indiana.; her granddaughters, Kristine Mayfield-Martin and Brittany Harris of Antioch, TN; and her niece Marcia. She is also survived by her nieces, nephews, cousins, co-workers and friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 14th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Sr. High School (4201 Sycamore St, Cairo, IL 62914). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 14th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
