DeSoto, MO
Russell "Dickie" Lewis, 84, of DeSoto, Missouri, passed away on March 6, 2026, at the home he built with his own hands. Born on February 1, 1942, in DeSoto, he was the son of the late Lester Walter Lewis and Effie Katherine (Villmere) Lewis. He graduated from DeSoto High School, where he formed many lifelong friendships, and spent his entire life in the community he loved.
A retired carpenter with Local #2214, Dickie was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus DeSoto Council #1185 and a lifelong parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, where he had attended grade school. He was an avid gardener who generously shared the fruits and vegetables from his garden with family and friends. He found joy in Boy Scouts, music, dancing—especially the jitterbug—and was deeply proud of the time spent with his family. A devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Green Bay Packers, he remained active and engaged throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Barbara Ann (Whitter) Lewis, whom he married in DeSoto on September 22, 1962, as well as his parents and siblings Norma (James) Marsden, Donald (Loraine) Lewis, Dolores (Archie) Richardson, Kenneth Lewis, and Glenn Lewis.
Dickie is survived by his children, Don (Dawn) Lewis of Antigo, Wisconsin, Denise (Shawn) McCarty of DeSoto, Missouri, Charlene (Kevin) De Clue of Hillsboro, Missouri, and Katherine (Chris) Meyer of DeSoto; his grandchildren, Amanda (Noah DeRousse) Bachmeyer, Josh (Stephanie) Lewis, Aaron (Alicia) Meyer, Tyler (Valeria) Lewis, Kirsten (Taylor) Hassell, and Rachel McCarty; and his great-grandchildren, Allana Bachmeyer, Logan Lewis Bachmeyer, Bennett Tolsma, Eleanor Meyer, Josiah Meyer, Otto Lewis, and Ayliana Hassell, with two more expected soon. He is also survived by his sister, Faye (the late Maurice) Pashia of Maryland Heights, Missouri, sister-in-law Dorothy Lewis of Highland, Illinois, brother-in-law Jim Tidwell of Bonne Terre, Missouri, and many other loving family members and friends.
