Russell Lee Naugle, 86, of Carlinville, Illinois, passed away on March 14, 2026, at his home.
Born on December 18, 1939, in Rockbridge, Illinois, to Vernon E. and Lois (Shade) Naugle, Russell graduated from Greenfield High School in 1957. Soon afterward he began a long career with Prairie Farms Dairy in Carlinville, where he worked for thirty years in a variety of roles before retiring in 1994. He then spent more than twenty years working at Rural King, retiring in 2021. A member of Teamsters Local 525, he also served as an alderman for the City of Carlinville.
Russell’s quiet pleasures included gardening, rabbit hunting, playing euchre, and following the St. Louis Cardinals. He and his wife, Zelma, enjoyed road trips together and riding his Honda Goldwing motorcycle. Above all, family remained the center of his life. He and Zelma, who passed away on October 23, 2016, took great joy in their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his sons, Kevin L. (Laura) Naugle and Brian E. (Leslie) Naugle, both of Carlinville; daughters, Jacque K. (Dave) Griffith and Janine M. (Larry) Gross, both of Carlinville; ten grandchildren, Keshia (Andy) Cook, Kayla (Kevin) Ashby, Eric Naugle-Gross, Alissa (Sean) Hicks, Haley (Nate) Naugle, Meghan (Chris) Naugle, Justin (Kenzie) Naugle, Hannah (Jake) Naugle, Aiden Naugle, and Camden (Addison) Naugle; eleven great-grandchildren, Everlee, Walker, Jet, Emmett, Halle, Parker, Ryne, Theo, Riley, Stevie, and Sutton; brother, Vernon “Butch” S. (Ruth) Naugle of Medora; sister, Karen (Randy) Kinser of Greenfield; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Zelma, and his sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Ronnie Whitlock.
