He spent his early years in Washington, D.C., growing up alongside his siblings and forming the strong family values that would guide him throughout his life. After graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1959, Russell attended Howard University's College of Engineering and Architecture, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1966. During his time at Howard University, he was a member of the Track team, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Student Council, AFROTC, and the Arnold Air Society. He married the love of his life, Lelia Mae Blanton, on April 15, 1961, beginning a devoted partnership that would span nearly 65 years.Following his graduation, Russell was offered more than 20 engineering positions with major corporations across the United States-a testament to his intelligence and dedication. He approached life with patience and an open mind and had a deep love for Bible study. He often spent meaningful time in thoughtful conversations about Scripture with his brother, Gene Lundy.Though quiet by nature, Russell had a joyful and playful side, especially when it came to his family. Whether taking them trick-or-treating, riding roller coasters, watching movies, or simply enjoying their interests, he was always present. To them, he was "Papa"-a steady, strong, and loving figure who will be deeply missed.Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Russell Lundy Sr., and his sister, Faye Lundy. He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Lelia Lundy; his daughter, Dana Rene' Whitner; his son, Russell Lundy III (Aida); his brother, Harry Eugene Lundy (Gypsy); five grandchildren, Dennis Lundy Carter, Morris Anthony Whitner (Roberta), Michael James Lundy (Jessica), Lance Daniel Lundy, and Allen Atienza Lundy; six great-grandchildren, Arianna Carter, Elijah Whitner, Isaiah Whitner, Juan Carter, Kai Lundy, and Cameron Lundy; along with a host of extended family members and dear friends.Russell's legacy of love, strength, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
