April 23, 1955— March 5, 2026
Germantown, TN
Russell Clement Dafferner, known to all as Russ, died on March 5, 2026, at the age of 70 in Germantown, Tennessee. Born on April 23, 1955, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Josephine and George A. Dafferner, he graduated from Bearden High School before earning his undergraduate degree at East Tennessee State University. He went on to study law at Memphis State University, receiving his Juris Doctorate in 1981. After practicing law for more than a decade, Russ changed careers for the sake of his family, beginning a thirty-year career in logistics with FedEx, from which he retired in 2024.
A longtime member of Independent Presbyterian Church, Russ lived out his faith through quiet, consistent service to those around him. He never met a stranger. With a warm smile and a ready sense of humor, he delighted in striking up conversations, swapping stories, and sharing laughter with anyone who crossed his path. His genuine curiosity about others and his kind, compassionate spirit left a lasting impression on family, friends, and colleagues alike.
Russ met his wife, Debbie, on a blind date during law school and lovingly called her his bride until the day he died. He cherished his role as father to Andrew, Emily, and Patrick, and he took special joy in being “Chief” to his grandchildren and all their friends. His home was always open, filled with soda, snacks, and ice cream, as he listened attentively to their days and activities. To his family and friends, he was a devoted champion, a willing handyman, lawn care advisor, chef, baker, and steady source of wisdom, advice, and encouragement. He loved deeply because he had been deeply loved by his Savior, Jesus Christ.
Russ is survived by his children, Andrew (Kim) Dafferner, Emily Dafferner, and Patrick (Craig) Gordon-Dafferner; his grandchildren, Benjamin, Samuel, and Sydney Dafferner, and Niklaus, Josephine, and FitzWilliam Gordon-Dafferner; his brother, Alan Dafferner; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Debbie, his parents, Josephine and George A. Dafferner, his brothers George and Clark Dafferner, and his grandson, Henry Carlton Dafferner.
