Born on July 7, 1946, in Boston, Massachusetts, he was the beloved son of the late Frederick and Virginia (Bean) Grafton. Russell was the brother of Nancy Newman, Richard Grafton and Harry Grafton and the late Walter Grafton, Frederick Grafton Jr., Robert Grafton, Cynthia Grafton, Judith Willard, Linda Grafton, Rosalie O'Connor, Virginia "Ginger" Lee, Janice Watson and Diane Ferrie. Russell proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1969. His time in the Navy instilled in him a strong sense of duty and responsibility that he carried throughout his life. Following his military service, Russell embarked on a lifelong career as a Union Boilermaker with Local 29. He truly loved his work and took great pride in his craft, forming lasting friendships with colleagues along the way. Known for his exceptional skill at fixing anything, Russell's dedication to his trade was matched only by his commitment to those he cared about.A hardworking and family-oriented man with a wonderful sense of humor, Russell cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. He was deeply devoted to his wife of many years, Mary A. Grafton; his daughter Michele A. Colvin; and his granddaughters Michaela L. Colvin, Victoria M. Colvin, and Abigail M. Colvin. He also adored his great-granddaughters, Evera J. Cardinale, Savannah J. Urban, and Brooklynne R. Urban. Russell's love for his family was unwavering; he made it his mission to care for them in every way possible.His strong sense of dedication and responsibility guided him through life's challenges with grace and determination. Russell will be remembered as a man who worked tirelessly for those he loved while bringing laughter and joy to their lives. His legacy of hard work, humor, and devotion will live in the hearts of all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing and inspire those who carry forward the values he held dear.Russell's Celebration of Life visiting hours will be held Thursday March 12, 2026, from 2:00 P.M.- 4:00 P.M. at the Casper Funeral Home, 187 Dorchester Street, South Boston, MA.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
