Russell Bryan Stevenson

Russell Bryan Stevenson, 93, of Oriental, NC, passed away February 23, 2026, at CarolinaEast Medical Center.

Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Russ carried with him a spirit of adventure and a deep love for the sea throughout his life. In 1981, he moved to the United States, first settling in Michigan. In the early 1990s, drawn by his lifelong passion for sailing and the welcoming waterfront community, he made his home in Oriental, where he quickly became a cherished part of the town.

Russ was a member of Oriental United Methodist Church and was well known for his enthusiasm and creativity within the local arts community. He was active with the Oriental Theater, where he delighted audiences and fellow performers alike through his participation in plays and theatrical productions. His love for the stage, along with his warm personality and engaging presence, made him a beloved friend to many.

Above all, Russ treasured his family and the many friendships he formed throughout his long and meaningful life. His adventurous spirit, gentle humor, and love for storytelling will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Yvonne Stevenson.

He is survived by his children, Cheryl, Grant, Peta, and Vaughn; his brothers, David and Ian; his sister, Maureen; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service to celebrate Russell’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Oriental United Methodist Church, with a time of fellowship immediately following the service.
