Coventry Township, OH

Rudolph F. Haser Jr., 86, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026. Born July 9, 1939, in Akron to the late Rudolph and Lavina Haser Sr., Rudy was a lifelong resident of Coventry Township, where he remained a well-known and respected figure in the community throughout his life.

A legendary athlete, Rudy was inducted into the Coventry High School Hall of Fame for his prowess on the basketball court. His passion for sports continued as a coach for Pee Wee football, where he led teams to championships, and as a basketball coach for both Coventry and Green Local Schools (softball/volleyball). Rudy had a "special eye for the game," and his mentorship guided countless young athletes to success both on and off the court, with many earning athletic scholarships. For years, he could be found at the fence during Coventry football games, cheering alongside fellow alumni.

Rudy dedicated his professional career to being a machinist at McNeil Machine. Outside of work, he was an avid fisherman; being on the water was his time to meditate and relax. He was also known for his meticulous care of his trucks and Jeep, his love of travel, and his unwavering devotion to his family.

Doctors and staff described his "fight for life" during his final journey as truly inspirational. His courageous spirit left a lasting impact on everyone who cared for him.

In addition to his parents, Rudy was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Haser. He is survived by his daughter, Penny (Kim Heller) Haser; brother, Dick (Judy) Haser; niece, Kelly (Dave) Fowler; his longtime loving partner, Eleanor Redfield; and her children, Bob (Marsha) Redfield, Lynn Bogdanovich, and Leslie Redfield; as well as many dear friends.

The family extends a special thank you to Eleanore Redfield, who dedicated herself to constant care until the end, Bob and Marsha Redfield for their hospitality and generosity during his visits at the James Center, and the staff at Crossroads Hospice for their compassionate care.

The Celebration of Life for Rudy will take place on Sunday, March 15, 2026, from 1 PM to 4 PM at Coventry Middle School, located at 3257 Cormany Road, Akron. Please use the side doors toward the back of the school for entry.

In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that you consider donating in Rudy's honor to support the renovation of a gymnasium and enable others to enjoy playing basketball. Donations can be made to Cornerstone Church at 2656 S. Arlington Road, Akron, Ohio 44319.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Adams Mason Funeral Home (330) 535-9186. A celebration of Rudy’s life will be announced shortly.
