Ruby Sutter

March 9, 1937 March 11, 2026

Mansfield, OH

Ruby Patrick-Sutter, age 89, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away on March 11, 2026, at Avita Health Hospital in Ontario, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on March 9, 1937, in Sandy Hook, Kentucky, to Clyde and Vell (Carter) Adkins, Ruby moved to Shelby as a young girl and lived there for the majority of her life. She graduated from Shiloh High School in 1955, then attended cosmetology school and became a licensed hairdresser. With determination and an entrepreneurial spirit, she opened Central Salon of Beauty in Shelby, successfully operating it for 36 years.

A woman of deep faith, Ruby was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Shelby. She was known for her impeccable neatness and kept a spotless home, a trait that became a fond running joke among family and friends. An exceptional cook, she took great joy in preparing generous homemade meals, always making extra so that loved ones could carry leftovers home. Ruby also cherished travel, especially to warm, sunny places. She and her husband Robert frequently visited Marco Island, and she enjoyed many trips to Arizona with her sister Pauline to see family. Above all, she treasured her time as a grandmother, offering her grandchildren warmth, kindness, and a sense of welcome that made them feel completely at home.

Ruby is survived by her children, Stephanie (Greg) Hummel of Shelby and Randy (Jenny) Patrick of Shelby; three step-children, Thomas (Kim) Sutter of Shiloh, Ohio, Robert (April Blair) Sutter of Shiloh, and Dawn Shepherd of Mansfield; seven grandchildren, Sara Hall, Hollie Patrick, Joshua Patrick, Japheth Patrick, Tristan Hummel, Morgan Hummel and Camryn Hummel; six step-grandchildren, Rachel (Ben) Slone, Bridget Sutter, Wyatt “Gus” Sutter, Chad Shepherd, AJ Shepherd and Cory Shepherd; three great-grandchildren, Brynn Hall, Jacob Hall and Harvey Patrick; two step great-grandchildren, Emery Slone and Beckett Slone; her sister, Pauline Kegley of Shelby; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Patrick of Mansfield; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert E. Sutter, whom she married on November 22, 2006, and who passed away in 2021; her first husband, Hamilton “Brownie” Patrick, who passed away in 2001; her son Greg Patrick, who passed away in 1995; and her siblings Mildred (Willis) Stamper and Johnny (Faye) Adkins.
