Boyd & Son Funeral Home - Cleveland on Mar. 7, 2026.ObituaryIn Loving Memory of Sister Ruby MossMs. Ruby Moss was born October 7, 1940, in Cleveland, Ohio to William Richardson and Margaret Williams, both preceded her in death.Ms. Ruby, as she is affectionately called, is a graduate of John Hay High School. At John Hay she was trained in the secretarial field. She is the oldest sister of Gloria and Ricardo Williams. Ricardo preceded her in death.Fresh out of high school, in 1960 Ms. Ruby became the second black person hired by Charlie Carr, with the Cleveland Council as a clerk typist. She then was promoted from the secretarial pool to the Deputy Clerk of Council and then went on to become the first black City Council Clerk. Continuing her career with the Cleveland City Council, she was selected by former City Council President George Forbes as his Executive Secretary. She became an integral link between the Council President and the civic community. Retiring in 1988 she became the Executive Secretary for the George Forbes Law firm.She married her high school sweetheart Thomas Moss, Jr. on July 12, 1959. To this union a daughter was born Myla Moss. After being married for over ten years she and her husband divorced.During her lifetime she belonged to several organizations. She was a member of the Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and CHUMS INC., started in Norfolk VA., founded in 1946, a social club that focused on education and provided scholarships for high school students, of which she was secretary. Additionally, she was an Ambassador with Dr. Edgar Jackson's program that introduced incoming medical students to the City of Cleveland. She worked on several national, state and local campaigns including President Jimmy Carter, Senator John Glenn, and Representative Louis Stokes. Later in her career she served as Council Clerk for the City of Warrensville Heights, where she processed legislation, she went on to work with Dr. David Saffold where she sold health insurance, she also worked for RTA on the Euclid Corridor Project until its completion. She was very involved with her church Werner United Methodist.She enjoyed gardening, live theatre and the New York Times crossword puzzles. After retirement she and her daughter traveled extensively and every winter she traveled with her dear friend Ida Margaret White to the Caribbean.Ms. Ruby was a very loyal, humble, committed and shy individual who leaves to mourn her death a daughter Myla Moss, Cleveland, a stepdaughter Tomiquia Moss, Oakland, CA., Guthrie Morgan (Spouse), her sister Gloria Williams, her nieces Kareema Williams, Dina Williams and Tiffany Williams and a host of family and friends.Humbly Submitted,The FamilyTo send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Ruby Florence Moss, please visit our floral store.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
