Rubelle Harper Shelley

Rubelle Harper Shelley, age 89, of Willow Spring, NC died on Thursday, March 5, 2026 in Windsor Point Retirement Community, Fuquay-Varina, NC. She was born on January 17, 1937 in Wake County, NC to the late Bennie and Mabel Myatt Harper.

Rubelle grew up in Buies Creek, NC with her loving parents. After high school, she attended Campbell Junior College which was near the family home. During her time at Campbell, she met Bruce Shelley who would later become her loving husband. Following their time at Campbell, they attended East Carolina University. Rubelle obtained her Bachelor of Education and taught 4th grade at Angier Elementary School. In her retirement, she devoted her time and energy to her family and the senior program at Neill's Creek Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Becky Shelley Holland and her husband, Rick and Marilyn Shelley Long and her husband, Chris; her grandchildren, Ashlyn Shelley Purus and her husband, Taylor, Nikolas Bruce Holland, Matthew Bruce Long, Lauren Elizabeth Holland; and her great-grandchildren, Shelley Camille Purus and Darby Elena Purus.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Shelley.

Her family will hold private services and burial.
