Winter Park, FL
Rosemary Wensing passed away on March 6, 2026 in Orlando, Florida. Born in Chicago, Illinois on January 15, 1931, she was the daughter of J. Lawrence Breen, Sr. and Rose Crogan Breen. She was 95.
Rosemary graduated from Visitation High School in Chicago in 1949, where she participated in numerous school organizations and community activities, including supporting the USO. She went on to earn her certification as a Registered Nurse from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing and Quincy College in 1953. As a dedicated RN, she cared for veterans at Hines Veterans Affairs Hospital in Chicago and later worked as a surgical nurse, OB/GYN specialist, and registered nurse in hospitals and private practice in San Francisco, California and Quincy, Illinois. Committed to professional growth, she earned her BSN from Quincy College in 1976. She also served on the medical staff of Culver-Stockton College and Gardner Denver Company and managed Women, Infants and Children (WIC) programs in Adams County, Illinois.
In 1957 she married World War II U.S. Army veteran Norbert H. (Bert) Wensing. Together they raised two sons, Kevin M. Wensing and Timothy J. Wensing. In 1964 Rosemary helped Bert launch N.H. Wensing Construction Company, which built industrial facilities for Knapheide Manufacturing, Quincy College, area schools, small businesses, and residential projects. After Bert’s death in 1977, she took over the company and completed its remaining contracts before it suspended operations in 1978.
An active member of Saint Francis Solanus Parish in Quincy, Rosemary was deeply involved in community service. She enjoyed traveling throughout Europe, the Holy Land, Brazil, the Caribbean, Hawaii, and many parts of the United States. After retiring in 1987 and moving to Winter Park, Florida, she continued her lifelong commitment to service as a member of the Mayfield Avenue community, the Navy League of the United States Central Florida Council, the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee, and through volunteering with the Winter Park Art Festivals, the Walt Disney World Marathon, and the Winter Park Urban Farm.
Rosemary is survived by her sons, Kevin M. Wensing, a retired U.S. Navy Captain, of Alexandria, Virginia, and his wife Anne Hartley Hobson Wensing and their daughter Grace Hartley Hobson Wensing; and Timothy J. Wensing, President of CMC Construction of Miami, Florida, and his wife Giovanna Montalvo Wensing and their children Christian and Mae Lynn, both Eagle Scouts. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers J. Lawrence Breen Jr. and James Edward Breen, and her husband Bert Wensing.
