Rosemarie Ludwig

Rosemarie Johanna Ludwig, 90, of Sycamore, passed away on March 13, 2026, at her home. Born on May 27, 1935, in Bavaria, Germany, she married George Ludwig in 1954. The couple met in Munich, and Rosemarie moved to the United States at the age of 19. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her son Lars E. Ludwig, her daughter Margaret Ann Ludwig, her grandson Tim, her granddaughter Christina Marie, and her great-grandson Michael.

In Germany, Rosemarie worked as a pediatric assistant. After immigrating, she was employed as a baker at Heidelberg University for more than ten years. She later cared for the children of her dear friends Claire and Mick, who became her adopted family, and devoted herself to being a stay-at-home mother to her own children. A longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, she found great joy in gardening, tending flowers, baking, and teaching her grandchildren the Lord’s Prayer in German. Her great-grandchildren lovingly called her “Oma.”

She is survived by her sons, Thomas (Nancy) Ludwig of Tiffin, Richard (Annette) Ludwig of Sycamore, and Josef Ludwig of Upper Sandusky; her daughters, Anita Ludwig of Sycamore, Janet (Paul) McClucas of Summerset, Pennsylvania, Marilyn Ludwig of Tiffin, and Susan Ludwig of Upper Sandusky; her brothers, Josef Peterandel and Manfred Peterandel, both of Germany; her sisters, Dorothe Wilhelmini of Germany and Margaret Warron of Louisville, Kentucky; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

To all her family, she left a final message of love: Ich liebe dich….I love you.
