October 26, 1943— March 11, 2026
Centerville, MN
Roseann “Rose” Arlene Johnson, 82, of Centerville and formerly of Garfield, passed away on March 11, 2026, at Atlas Villas in Centerville.
Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on October 26, 1943, to Ralph and Lenora (Sundquist) Kimball, Rose entered foster care in 1948 with Mr. and Mrs. Dahl of Edina alongside her sister Lois. Her foster mother, lovingly known as “Grandma Dahl,” provided a nurturing Christian home that shaped Rose’s deep and enduring faith. She attended school in Edina, where she developed a love for drawing, especially horses. After graduating from Edina High School, she became the mother of two daughters, Julie and Brenda.
In 1974, Rose married Kenneth Johnson, and together they shared more than fifty years of a devoted and joyful marriage. Rose cherished her horses and the outdoors, spending many happy hours riding. She and Ken discovered a mutual passion for antiques and collectibles, delighting in buying and reselling treasures and attending the Minnesota State Fair each year on their anniversary. They also enjoyed fishing and hunting for agates together. The couple lived for many years on Lake Marion in Lakeville before settling near Garfield outside Alexandria, where they made their home for nearly two decades. Active members of Alexandria Covenant Church, Rose lived her faith with quiet devotion, sharing the love of Jesus with others. She carried a joyful and playful spirit, always quick to laugh, and remained proud of the path she walked without ever drinking alcohol or smoking.
Rose is survived by her husband, Kenneth Johnson; her daughters, Julie (Brent) Adams of New Hope and Brenda (Ron) Hedtke of Ham Lake; grandchildren Hanif (Joanna) Powe, Aundrey (Amanda) Wallace, Brianna (Ches) Masserano, Josh (Maddie) Adams, Nathen Eide, Nicholas (Brianna) Brown, Jeremiah (Zoey) Brown, and Cody Brown; and many beloved great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her biological parents, Ralph and Lenora Kimball; her foster mother, “Grandma Dahl” of Edina; her sister, Lois Kimball; and her brother, Ralph Kimball.
