July 26, 1939— March 12, 2026
Arthur, NE
Rose Mary White, age 86, of Arthur, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at her home.
Born on July 26, 1939, to Roy and Elsie Hyatt in Ogallala, Nebraska, Rose spent much of her childhood on the family ranch southwest of Arthur. Her family later moved to Tryon, where she graduated from high school. In 1957 she married Lloyd White, and their first son, Roy, was born in Grant, Nebraska. The couple moved to Montana, where their three other sons—Terry, Gary, and Roger—were born. While there, Rose worked as a waitress in a local café. Though she never grew fond of the mountains, she was happiest when the family returned to the sandhills of Nebraska. They worked on various ranches before settling in the early 1970s on the family ranch where she had grown up. Rose later worked at the locker plant and the Arthur Enterprise before choosing to stay home to help on the ranch and raise her boys.
Family was the center of Rose’s world. She gathered everyone each Christmas to read “The Christmas Story” from the family Bible, never missed a birthday or holiday card for her children, their wives, six grandchildren, or twelve great-grandchildren, and poured her love into every handmade gift and holiday craft. She cherished baking cookies, gardening, and spending time with her horses, talking to them long after she could no longer ride. With a warm smile and a generous heart, she was the one behind the camera capturing every family memory, the fearless grandmother who chased away snakes, healed scrapes, and dried tears with love and treats.
She is survived by her four sons, Roy (Jana) White of Southerland, Nebraska, Terry (Deb) White of Ogallala, Gary White of Roscoe, Nebraska, and Roger (Cara) White of Ogallala; granddaughters Darraigh (Brian) Parker of Alva, Oklahoma, Kendra (Angelo) Lara of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Jessica (Kelsey) Glodowski of McCook, Nebraska, and Kayla (Nathan) Buell of Doniphan, Nebraska; grandsons Wesley (Audrey) White of Sidney, Nebraska, and Brandon White of Nashville, Tennessee; her sister Ruth Neal of Prey, Montana; and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lloyd, her sister Anita Kuntz, and her brother Lee Hyatt.
