Hutchinson, KS

Rose L. Cornwell, 69, of Hutchinson, passed away on March 12, 2026, at Hospice House in Hutchinson. Born on May 25, 1956, in Munich, Germany, to Wilbur and Martha (Maier) Wiens, she graduated from Hutchinson High School and later took classes at Salt City Business School. Rose worked as an accountant for H&R Block and Kroger and served as co-secretary at First Baptist Church. She had a genuine love for numbers and found deep satisfaction in her work.

In addition to her accounting career, Rose spent many years driving a school bus for USD 313. Known for her remarkable memory, caring spirit, and outgoing nature, she thrived in the company of others and was affectionately described as a social butterfly. Above all, Rose cherished her family. She adored her grandchildren, whom she spoiled with love, homemade cookies, and lively games of bingo. They lovingly called her the “best grandma ever.”

On August 23, 1975, Rose married Philip Cornwell. The couple shared nearly 51 years of marriage filled with devotion and companionship.

She is survived by her husband, Philip Cornwell of Hutchinson; daughters, Rachel (Kevin) Frymire of Newton, Rebecca Bevilacqua of Hutchinson, and Kristi Shields of Hutchinson; sister, Sharon (Tim) Surface of Great Bend; grandchildren, Colson (Fiona) Frymire, Seth Frymire, Kali Frymire, Gage Pederson, Gunner Pederson, and Brittani Shields; and great-grandson, Jensen Shields. Rose was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Connor Frymire.
