Rosa Chavez ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals & Cremation Service on Mar. 5, 2026.In Loving Memory of my mother, Rosa ChavezFebruary 21, 1936 - March 1, 2026With profound love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Rosa, who was called home by God on March 1, 2026, at the age of 90.Born on February 21, 1936, in Cuba, she. carried the vibrancy, warmth, and soul of herhomeland within her always. At just 22 years old, she made the brave and life-altering decision to leave Cuba and begin again in a new country. Though exile meant leaving behind the familiar, she never left behind her culture. She wove it into our home, our family, and everything she created.Soon after, she married my Dad, Cesar and began building the family that would become her greatest masterpiece. She devoted herself to raising my brother and I nurturing us with strength and creativity. Her love was steady and fierce, her guidance gentle yet unwavering. Mom's life was art. She did not simply create, she LIVED creatively. Endless trips to museums and galleries, broadway shows and all the things NYC had to offer, she made sure we were always a part of it. Music filled our home and her heart. Her cooking was legendary, not just for its flavor but for the love infused in every dish. The kitchen was her sanctuary, a place where tradition, imagination, and generosity met. Through food, song, and artistic expression, she turned ordinary days into celebrations. She was exceptionally creative, but even more than that, she was deeply encouraging. She taught us to be bold, to be independent, and to live fully. She encouraged us to be adventurous, to never hold back, to travel the world, and to embrace everything life has to offer. She believed life was meant to be experienced with curiosity, courage, and joy and she lived as an example of that belief.Friends and family were drawn to her warmth, her resilience, strength and the unmistakable spark that made her uniquely herself. She had a gift for making others feel welcomed, inspired, and deeply cared for. Hundreds of people passed through our doors for a meal, or a cup of Cuban coffee. She touched many lives, leaving behind memories rich with laughter, music, and love.Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that God has finally called her home. We imagine her surrounded by light, music, and the beauty she so deeply cherished. She leaves behind a legacy of courage, culture, artistry, faith, and unconditional love. Her spirit will live on in the songs we play, the poems we read, the meals we prepare, the journeys we take, and in the fearless way we choose to live our lives.A Funeral service will be from 2:00 - 4:00 PM on Monday at Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals and Cremation Service located at 3377 US Highway 9 Old Bridge, New Jersey 08857.Online condolences may be made to the family at www.HegartyScaliaFuneralHome.comTo plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
