Ronald Stephen Longhofer, a distinguished scholar, music aficionado, and seasoned world traveler, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, at his home in Plymouth, Michigan. Born on August 30, 1946, in Junction City, Kansas, Ron lived a life marked by achievement, service, and the pursuit of knowledge, all of it filled with love and laughter.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Norma, whose partnership brought him love, warmth, support, and adventure. His legacy continues through his grandchildren Grace (John Blake) MacManamy, Jeremiah “Jack” Pryor, Findlay Pryor, Claire Pryor, Fiona Pryor, and Harden Pryor, all of whom brought him great joy and pride.

Ron, Norma, and the family also mourn the loss of grandson Simon Trimble, whose memory remains a cherished part of their hearts. Ron and Simon have now reunited and are playing piano duets in the sky.

He served honorably in the United States Army, attending the Defense Language Institute and becoming fluent in German while serving as a translator in Germany. A true citizen of the world, he embraced travel with passion, sharing countless adventures with Norma that included climbing the Great Wall of China, camel trekking across India, sailing the Mekong River, multiple journeys to Africa, and more than 30 cruises. The couple also cherished extended stays in their cozy cottage in Scotland while exploring the countryside. Ron’s sense of humor and open-hearted spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
