Chickasha, OK

Ronald Ray “Ron” Mitchell, 77, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, passed away on March 10, 2026. Born on October 21, 1948, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, he was the son of Ruth Madaline Brower and Avery McClain, who died early in Ron’s youth. He was later adopted by his stepfather, Al Mitchell. As a boy, Ron lived overseas for several years while his father worked for Halliburton before returning to Oklahoma. He graduated from Duncan High School in 1967 and attended the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha.

Ron began his career with the Chickasha Police Department. In 1978, he joined the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma as a security officer and later became Chief of Security, serving the university community with dedication until his retirement in 2010.

In 1978, Ron married Kay Dian Cole Mitchell. He was the beloved father of Kimberly Kay Hall Stice. A lifelong member of the Episcopal Church, he was an active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Chickasha. Ron was known for his friendly nature and genuine kindness. He never met a stranger and was always happy to sit and visit with anyone. He made sure the people he loved knew it. Above all, he dearly loved his wife Kay, his daughter Kim, and his dog Max.

He was preceded in death by his father, Avery McClain, his mother Ruth Madaline Brower, his stepfather Allison Mitchell, and his older brother Joe McClary. Ron is survived by his wife, Kay Dian Cole Mitchell of Chickasha; his daughter, Kimberly Kay Hall Stice; and his younger brother, John “Jack” Mitchell.

Ron was deeply loved by his family and will be greatly missed. He will live on in our memories for his kindness, humor, and the love he shared with those around him.
