Independence, KY
Ronald “Ron” Lee Piper, 77, of Independence, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Covington, Kentucky, on April 14, 1948, to the late Palmer and Mabel (Benson) Piper, Ron answered the call of his country when he was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Years later he was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, a disease many believe was linked to his service overseas, yet he faced the long illness with the same quiet strength that defined his life.
Ron was a dedicated ironworker who spent his career with Iron Workers Local 44, retiring after many years of hard work. He took great pride in caring for his property, spending countless hours on his tractors and tending the land he loved. A lifelong enthusiast of cars and motorcycles, he found joy in simple, hands-on pursuits that reflected his steady, hardworking nature.
Above all, Ron was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. For fifty years he shared a deep and unwavering love with his wife, Neva. He cherished his role as “Pap” to his grandson, Cort, and remained a constant source of support and encouragement to his entire family.
He is survived by his wife, Neva (Finnell) Piper; children, Ryan (Chrissy) Piper and Sarah (Kyle) Wojcik; grandson, Cort Piper; brother, Jeffery Piper; and brothers-in-law, Glenn Finnell and Ira Carder. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Timothy Piper, and his sister, Rebecca Carder.
