Fredericksburg, VA
Ronald L. Thayer Sr., age 74, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 6, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Ron lived a life dedicated to faith, service, and family. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps. He served his community as Stafford County Fire Chief, beginning in 1976, and as Stafford County Sheriff’s Chaplain, offering guidance, compassion, and spiritual support to those around him. Ron was the Pastor of Open Door Community Church, where he devoted himself to sharing his testimony and leading others to the Lord. His faith guided everything he did, and he touched countless lives through his ministry and compassion.
Ron also loved the freedom of the open road and the strong brotherhood that came with it. He proudly rode with Leathernecks MC, Sons of God MC, and Red Knights MC, where he formed many lifelong friendships.
Above all, Ron loved his family deeply. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Dee Thayer, his children Lisa Thayer Wilson (TC), Kimberly Thayer Johnson, and Ronald Thayer Jr., seven grandchildren, Troy (Katie), Ashton, Stacey (Cody), Thomas (Kaley), Ronnie III (Diamond), Dominique, and James, and nine great-grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of his life. He is also survived by his sisters Shirley Sieck and Debby Thayer and his brother Tommy Thayer. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Nelson Thayer; his sister Joan Alexander; and his brothers Dick Thayer, Bill Thayer, and Kenny Thayer.
Ron will be remembered as a man of strong faith, a servant to his community, and a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His legacy of kindness, leadership, and devotion to God and family will live on in all who knew and loved him.
