Ronald E. Gerhardt
February 5, 1948— March 11, 2026
Rochester, MN
Ronald E. Gerhardt, age 78, of Rochester, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
Born in Fairmont, Minnesota, Ron grew up on the family farm, where he excelled as a natural leader and athlete. He served as captain of both the football and basketball teams during his school years. His talent on the football field earned him a full-ride scholarship to the University of South Dakota, where he started at tight end for four years. He was later inducted into both the Fairmont Hall of Fame and the University of South Dakota Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in football.
After college, Ron built a distinguished 40-year career with Hormel. Above all, he cherished his family. He shared 31 loving years of marriage with his wife, Vicki, and together they spent 20 joyful years creating their dream lake property near Sherburn, Minnesota, which they affectionately called “A Ltl Bitta Haven.” Ron found great satisfaction in working on the property and gathering with loved ones there. Encouraged by his late brother Brad, he joined the Harmony Junction barbershop chorus and quartets as well as church choirs, and he treasured the special bond they shared through music. A proud father, stepfather, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Ron held every moment with his family close to his heart.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki; his children, Jodi Rindflesch, Jason Gerhardt, Tony Roe, and Angie Tomlinson; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Wayne, Elaine, Beverly, and Milah. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Gloria Gerhardt, his brother Brad, and his granddaughter Gracie.
Ron was a big man with an even bigger heart, known to many as a gentle giant and a true teddy bear who gave the warmest hugs. His kindness, warmth, and deep love for his family will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on forever in the hearts of those he cherished.
