December 18, 1933— March 4, 2026
Forest City, IA
Ron Eide, age 92, of Forest City, Iowa, passed away on March 4, 2026. Though he and his wife LuAnn had been living in Waukee in recent years to be closer to family, Forest City remained their true home.
Born in Forest City on December 18, 1933, Ron grew up in Leland and graduated from Forest City High School. After attending Waldorf College, he married LuAnn Mathews in 1953 and continued his studies at Luther College. He began his teaching career at the high school in Britt, where their four children were born, while steadily working toward his master’s degree through summers and weekends at Luther, UNI, and the University of Michigan. The family then moved to Bainbridge Island, Washington, where Ron taught for several years. Eventually the pull to be near family brought them back to Forest City, where he began a long and fulfilling career as a Chemistry Professor at Waldorf College. He retired from Waldorf in 1992.
An avid sportsman, Ron found joy in fishing, hunting, and golf throughout his life. He was a devoted husband and father, and in retirement he and LuAnn enjoyed traveling across the United States and Canada with their Airstream trailers.
Ron is survived by his wife LuAnn, their children Ronna of Panora, Iowa, Suzanne (Cheryl) of Clive, Joel (Debbie) of West Des Moines, and Rosanne (Daryl) of Boone, five grandchildren Jennifer Plagge, Kory Brown, Hannah Eide, Kaitlynn Eide, and Erik Gill, and two great-grandchildren, Hallie and Harper. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herb and Loretta Eide of Leland, and his sisters Kathy Slotvig and Janice Armstrong. A family burial will be held at a future date.
