August 9, 1943— March 14, 2026
Creston, IA
Ronald Dale Brammer, Sr., 82, of Creston, Iowa, passed away at his home on March 14, 2026. Born on August 9, 1943, in Creston, he was the son of Rex Ellsworth Brammer, Sr., and Effie Ellen Simmons Brammer. Ron attended community schools in Lenox and Newton, Iowa, before beginning a lifelong career as a truck driver.
In 1962, Ron married Penny Sue Wood in Creston. The couple had three children, Ronald Jr., Kevin, and Shawnee, before later divorcing. He later shared a relationship with Patty Foley, with whom he had a daughter, Corrina, and settled in Macksburg. In 1974, he married Bingta Waltz, and the marriage later ended in divorce. Ron married Misti Ross in 1978; they had two daughters, Tshanta and Victoria, and made their home in St. Charles, Iowa, before divorcing. In 1985, he married Rosalie Alloway and settled in Newton, where he welcomed two stepdaughters, Alicia and Carey, into his family. In 1991, Ron returned to Macksburg and enjoyed the companionship of Patty Long.
Throughout his life, Ron was known for his love of music. He played guitar in several old country bands and often performed with Phil Vandel at the Macksburg Shop. He found great joy in fishing, never missing an opportunity to grab his pole and head to the water. He also enjoyed playing the lottery, particularly his beloved scratchers. Ron was remembered for his distinctive sayings, “I heard that” and “You got that right,” and for his playful, ornery spirit that remained with him until the end. After driving more than seven million miles across numerous states, he retired from trucking in 2003 and later made his home in Creston.
Ron is survived by his children, Ronald Brammer, Jr. of Creston, Kevin Brammer of Macksburg, Corrina Teachout of Des Moines, Shawnee Brammer of Creston, Tshanta Johnson of Cedar Rapids, and Victoria Brammer of Creston; his stepdaughters, Alicia Chance and Carey Lebhart, both of Newton; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brothers, Randy Downey of Carroll and Kevin Downey of Creston; his sisters, Vickie Downey and Sharon Downey, both of Des Moines; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Rex Brammer McFee, his sisters Judy Pritchard and Carla Downey, his brother-in-law Gene Moore, and Rose Brammer in 2020.
