Sunnyside, WA
SUNNYSIDE – Romeo Ybarra, born on July 28, 1947, in Hoopeston, Illinois, passed away on March 13, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of honor, hard work, and deep devotion to his family.
In 1968, Romeo stepped forward to serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. For his bravery and dedicated service, he was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Following his military service, Romeo dedicated nearly 30 years of hard work to Georgia Pacific, where he remained until his retirement.
After years of traveling with his family, Romeo met the love of his life, Margarita Piña in 2000 and settled down in Sunnyside in 2009. Romeo’s heart was as big as the life he lived, and he found his greatest joy in the simple things: the tranquility of fishing, the sound of the ocean at the beach, and many spirited trips to the casino. Above all, he was a proud grandfather. His favorite place to be was outdoors, riding on his lawn mower, his grandkids by his side, sharing laughs and making memories that will last their lifetimes.
Romeo was a beloved husband, father, brother, and a true friend. He is preceded in death by his father, Manuel Ybarra, his mother, Genoveva Becho Ybarra, and his brother Robert Ybarra.
He is survived by his wife, Margarita Piña; his siblings, Bartolo Ybarra, Manuel Ybarra, Margarita Soto, Genoveva Bazan, and Elvia Villareal; and his children, Juanita Piña, Anita Piña, Monica Piña, Laura Hull, Shawn Hull, and Jenevive Tansley. He also leaves behind a legacy of nieces, nephews, and many grandchildren who will miss their "Welo and Papa" dearly.
The viewing will be March 18, 2026 at Valley Hills Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to noon. The service will be from noon to 2 p.m.
