He was born in Austin, MN to Willard "Bob" and Ruth Block on April 29,1935. Roger attended Austin High School, graduating in 1953. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Army where he proudly served in the 82nd Airborne Division.Upon completing his military service, Roger returned to Minnesota. In 1956, he began an apprenticeship program with IBM in Rochester. Roger retired from IBM as a Senior Tool Designer and Drafter. Roger was devoted to his faith and met his future wife at his church singles group. In June,1961 Roger married Jeannine in Notre Dame Cathedral in Montreal, Canada. They made their home in Stewartville, MN.Roger was committed to serving his church community of St. Bernard's by taking part in numerous committees, Men's Club, teaching religious education, serving as Eucharistic minister, ushering and acting as lector during Mass.Roger was an avid reader. He often read multiple daily newspapers which provided the added bonus of multiple crossword puzzles and sudoko. He enjoyed novels, fiction, historical fiction, biographies and historical accounts. In his early adulthood, Roger enjoyed swimming and played handball at the YMCA. Roger's military experience led to his fascination with airplanes, especially historical military aircraft. He had taken several trips with a friend to air shows in the Midwest.Roger is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jeannine; their daughter Bernadette (Jim); son, Dennis; granddaughters: Marissa (Nick) and Nicole (Corey); great-grandchildren: April, Cadence, Paige, Brayton (who shared great-grandpa's birthday), Lauren and Ashlyn.An intimate family gathering will take place at a future date to honor and celebrate Roger's life.
