Roger Delano Mayes

Roger Delano Mayes, age 75, of Mount Airy, passed away at his residence on Saturday morning, March 14, 2026. Born in Surry County on November 4, 1950, he was the son of the late Swanson Monroe and Effie Fannie Parker Mayes. Roger spent many years working as a fixer in the hosiery mills.

He was a loving father, grandfather, sibling, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Roger is survived by the mother of his son, Glenda Goodwill; his son and fiancé, Roderic “Rod” Mayes and Rebecca Lowe; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his sisters, Linda Hooker and Sylvia Hayden; and his brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Tammy Jo Mayes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Swanson Leon Mayes and Nathaniel “Buck” Mayes, and his brother-in-law, Danny Hooker.
