Hertford, NC
Roger A. Hutchinson, 82, passed away on March 7, 2026.
Born in Phelps, New York, on June 21, 1943, to W.M. and Ruth Hutchinson, Roger served his country as a United States Marine from 1960 to 1964. He remained deeply committed to the principles of Freemasonry throughout his life, serving as Worshipful Master of Corinthian Lodge in 1989 in Norfolk, Virginia, as Captain of Khedive Desert Patrol with the Shriners in 1988, and as Junior Steward of Perquimans Masonic Lodge #106 in Hertford. He was a proud Master Mason and Shriner.
Roger was a faithful member of Chapel on the Sound, where he found joy working in the kitchen and volunteering for any task that would help others. Known affectionately as Hutch, he was a man of quiet strength and generosity who earned the deep respect and love of many. To his wife Ruth, he was the best husband she could have asked for, and she loved him beyond measure.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Douglas and Ed, and his stepson Mark Burgett. Roger is survived by his wife Ruth of Hertford, North Carolina; his son W.M. Hutchinson of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; his stepsons Phillip Walker of Hertford, North Carolina, and W.M. Walker of Kingsport, Tennessee; his cousin Becky O’Donnell of Canandaigua, New York; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
