Southampton, NJ

Rodney C. Lucas, 55, of Southampton, New Jersey, passed away on March 4, 2026. Born on April 28, 1970, in Mount Holly, New Jersey, Rod was known to family and friends as a thinker, innovator, and lifelong learner whose extraordinary patience and generosity touched everyone around him. His rare intellect inspired others to approach the world with curiosity, clarity, and wonder.

A loving husband, devoted son, cherished brother, and proud uncle, Rod was above all an adoring adoptive father figure, known affectionately as “Papa” to Samantha’s friends. His love for family was fierce and unwavering. He was predeceased by his daughter, Samantha Lynn, in 2013, and by his father, Ronald Lucas. His mother, Gloria, often described him as “smart as a whip,” someone who could fix any computer, television, cell phone, or stubborn printer.

After Samantha’s passing, Rod channeled his grief into creating the Samantha Lucas Memorial Fund, which provides awards to local high school students and carries forward her legacy of inspiration. He held a deep passion for science fiction, especially Star Wars and Star Trek, and maintained a fascination with vintage computers that reflected his inventive spirit. His laughter was contagious, his love steadfast, and his personal motto—“Where there’s a Rod, there’s a way”—served as a guiding principle for those who knew him.

Rod will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all whose lives he enriched with his brilliance, warmth, and joy.
