Rocky Anderson Smith

Rocky Anderson Smith

December 2, 1955 February 24, 2026

Tulsa, OK

Anderson Smith was born on December 2, 1955 to the late Harper and Mary E. Smith in East Carroll Parish, Louisiana. Rocky accepted Christ at an early age and served faithfully as a junior deacon. Rocky graduated from Griffin High School in Lake Providence, Louisiana with the Class of 1973. After graduating, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army. During his military service, Rocky received several medals, badges, and ribbons, including the Sharpshooter Badge and the Expert Badge with Hand Grenade Bar.

Rocky served his country with distinction and completed overseas assignments in Germany and Panama, along with stateside service in Oklahoma. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Rocky reenlisted in the Army National Guard Reserve where he served for many years before receiving another honorable discharge.

Following his military career, Rocky worked for All-Star Machinery in Tulsa for 12 years. Rocky was known as a jack of all trades and could repair almost anything, at least that’s what he would say. One of Rocky’s favorite sayings was, “I love the life I live, and live the life I love.”

Rocky enjoyed spending time with his grandson, De’Marion Thomas. While De’Marion loved fishing, Rocky’s favorite part was eating the fish. Rocky loved his children and grandchildren dearly, and he cherished his brothers and sisters. Rocky adored and deeply loved his wife.

Though he appeared to be a tall, strong man who might intimidate others, there was one little girl who completely stole his heart. Her name was Kai’Or, whom he called his “good baby.” Good baby had him wrapped around her finger and could get almost anything she wanted from him.

Rocky was known by many nicknames including Big Country, Old School, Big Rack, and Rocky. He had a special love for fish—especially buffalo ribs, which were one of his favorite meals. Rocky built a shed with his own hands in the backyard of his home. It became his special place where he repaired and built many things. It was also where he went to listen to his music, reflect, and enjoy moments of peace.

On February 24, 2026, Rocky gained his wings and entered eternal rest. He was reunited in heaven with his parents, Harper and Mary E. Smith; his grandparents, Alice Cooper-Nichols and James Nichols Sr.; his brother, Freddie Nichols Sr.; and his son, Byron Kelly.

He leaves to cherish his memories and continue his legacy with his loving wife, Glenda Ballard-Smith of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He leaves five children, Tara Kelly of Lake Providence, Louisiana; Shantel (Eden) Jordan of Texas; Mona (Michael) of Texas; Andre (Myra) Kelly of Texas; and Steven Jackson of Texas. Along with his beloved stepchildren, Michael (Carol) Ballard and Sha’Tiea (Vincent) Thomas. Rocky was the proud grandfather of 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, and 2 step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Alice Jean Nichols, Mattie (Marty) Adams, Linda (Frankie) Berry, Mattie Williams, Margie (Eric) Troupe, and Debra Smith; his brothers, Willie Smith, Chester (Janice) Smith, Alphonse Smith, Harper (Earlene) Smith Jr., and Eddie (Ollie) Smith; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.

Viewing will be held Thursday, March 12, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the funeral service following at 11:00 a.m., both at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
