Robin Renee Higgins

December 25, 1960 March 9, 2026

Des Moines, IA

Robin Renee Higgins, born Robin Renee Rankin on December 25, 1960, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Jim and Karen Rankin, passed away on March 9, 2026, at the age of 65 after complications from pneumonia.

A graduate of Hoover High School, Robin married Walter “Bill” Higgins in 1985. Together they raised their son Dustin and daughters Tina, Amy, Toni, and Amber. She was known as a dedicated and hardworking woman, holding positions at Principal, Clark Lift, Doors Inc., and Hy-Vee Corporate. Her warm personality helped her form lasting friendships wherever she worked, and she was deeply touched by the support she received from her Hy-Vee colleagues during her recent battle with lung cancer.

Robin found joy in cozy mystery novels, computer games, jigsaw puzzles, painting, and creating woodcrafts alongside her husband Bill. She cherished time spent with family and friends, attending concerts and craft shows with her mother, and especially loved her role as “Grandma Robin.” She rarely missed her grandchildren’s concerts, recitals, sporting events, birthday parties, or graduations. Summer days on Lake Ponderosa, cheering for her beloved Steelers, and ending a good meal with dessert were among her favorite simple pleasures. Robin was known for speaking her mind, laughing easily, and holding those she loved with deep loyalty and affection.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Higgins, her father Jim Rankin, her daughters Toni and Tina Higgins, and her daughter-in-law Rebecca Rankin. Robin will be lovingly remembered by her son Dustin (Jessica) Rankin, daughters Amber Higgins (Rex Bullard) and Amy Berg; her grandchildren Karis, Ava, Gabrielle, Lincoln, Weston, Cody, Jo Lynn, Madalynn, and Micaiah; her mother Karen Rankin; stepmother Linda Rankin; sister Jennifer (David) King; aunt Linda (John) Malloy; and many other family members and friends.
