Roberta Hicks Batten

Mrs. Roberta Hicks Batten, age 85, of the Wheel Community in Bedford County, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, in Shelbyville, Tennessee. Born in Whitwell, Tennessee, to the late James Leslie Hicks and Marie Layne Hicks, she retired from Stanley Tool as a quality control specialist and was a lifelong member of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Walter Douglas Batten, a son, William “Bill” Wayne Batten, a son-in-law, Johnny Foster, and a sister, Delphie Burrahm.

Roberta found great joy in creating with her hands, spending many hours on crochet projects, quilting, and sewing. She had a deep passion for cooking and loved gathering family and friends around her table. She also cherished tending her garden, growing vegetables, working word searches, and watching her favorite television show, The Young and the Restless. Above all, she treasured the time spent with her family, making memories that will be held dear.

She is survived by her loving children, Linda Batten (Joe) Tate of Shelbyville, Tennessee, Shelia Batten Foster of Shelbyville, Tennessee, and Sherry Batten of Unionville, Tennessee; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; her brother, William Jerry Hicks; and her sisters, Imogene McGowan of the Flat Creek Community in Bedford County, Lorene Blackburn of Unionville, Tennessee, and Dalphine Shadrick of the Flat Creek Community in Bedford County, Tennessee.
