July 17, 1937— March 10, 2026
St. Clair Shores, MI
Robert "Bob" Oswald of St. Clair Shores, Michigan passed away on March 10, 2026 at the age of 88. Born on July 17, 1937 in Minden City, Michigan, Bob was raised on the family farm in Ruth as one of seven children of the late Raymond and Sarah Oswald. His deep Catholic faith and strong family bonds remained the foundation of his life. After graduating from Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School in Ruth in 1955, he farmed and transported dairy before enlisting in the Army. Upon returning, he began a long career at General Motors in Pontiac.
Shortly after starting at GM, Bob met and married the love of his life, Elaine. Together they shared 58 devoted years of marriage until her passing in 2024. They were blessed with three children and built a life centered on family, faith, and lasting friendships. For more than 40 years, Bob and Elaine cherished their euchre club gatherings. They faithfully supported their children and grandchildren at sporting events and activities, whether in person or by live stream, and remained loyal Detroit Tigers fans. Bob never lost the heart of a farm boy; he took great pride in his meticulously kept yard, garden, and landscaping, and he and his brother John enjoyed collecting antique tractors that they proudly drove in the Buckley Old Engine Show parade. Above all, he loved gathering with family and friends to share stories of his boyhood adventures on the farm and the colorful characters he had known.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Joan (Brian) Ebner and Karen (Kurtis) Fouts; his son, Robert; grandchildren Arianna and Jake; sisters-in-law Jean (Matthew) Gardner, Marie Oswald, and Sandy Oswald; brother-in-law Robert Booms; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Elaine and his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Mary (the late Gerald) Messing and Shirley Booms, his brothers John, Raymond, James, and Richard (the late Beatrice), niece Sally McIntosh, and nephews Jerry Messing and Kevin Oswald.
