Robert Wayne Whetzel

Robert Wayne Whetzel, affectionately known as Wayne, passed away on March 10, 2026, at the age of 65 in Bel Air, Maryland. Born in Bethesda, Maryland, he was the son of the late Katherine Louise (Starner) Berry and Robert William Whetzel. A proud graduate of Bel Air High School, Class of 1978, Wayne played varsity basketball during his school years. He later enlisted in the United States Army National Guard, where he served with distinction, graduating in the top 20 percent of the 129th Air Traffic Control Detachment.

Wayne embraced life with a spirit of adventure and a deep appreciation for family. He was passionate about golf and found great joy in the time spent with loved ones. Those who knew him will remember his kind spirit, generous heart, and his consistent willingness to help others.

He is survived by his children, Tina (Whetzel) Kauders and her partner Kelly of Havre de Grace, Maryland, Teresa (Whetzel) Getz and her husband Steve of Bel Air, Maryland, and Robert Whetzel II “Bob” of Bel Air, Maryland; his brother, Brian Berry of Bel Air, Maryland; his sister, Linda Herrington; his granddaughters, Brianna, Mykaela, and Kendall; and his great-granddaughters, Emersyn and Rylee, along with many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Maryann Whetzel.
