Robert W. Gilbert Jr.

Robert W. Gilbert Jr., known to all as Bob, passed away at his home on March 8, 2026, at the age of 79 after a long struggle with illness.

Born on January 19, 1947, to Robert W. Gilbert Sr. and Anne (Tierney) Gilbert, Bob graduated from Emerson Senior High School in 1965. He soon answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, an experience that remained one of the most meaningful chapters of his life. A proud Army veteran, Bob carried deep pride in his service and the lasting bonds he shared with his fellow veterans.

After his military service, Bob worked for PSE&G until his retirement, having been recognized as 100% disabled by the Department of Veterans Affairs. He later made his home in Hamburg, where he remained closely connected to the veteran community as a dedicated member of the Sussex County Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1002. He found quiet enjoyment in the simple rhythms of daily life, becoming a familiar and welcome presence at Granny’s Pancake House and Grill, where he enjoyed breakfast most mornings.

Predeceased by his parents, his brother Christopher Gilbert, and his sister Anne “Terri” Wilson, Bob is survived by many cousins and friends who will remember him for his steadfast loyalty, his deep sense of service, and the quiet strength of his presence in their lives.
