Robert Raymond "Bob" Wilbur

Robert Raymond "Bob" Wilbur

June 25, 1940 March 3, 2026

Harrison, ID

Robert Raymond Wilbur, known to all as Bob, passed away on March 3, 2026, at Pinehurst Senior Community in Pinehurst, Idaho, at the age of 85. Born on June 25, 1940, in Kellogg, Idaho, to Clarence and Della May (Anderson) Wilbur, Bob embodied the hardworking spirit of the Silver Valley. He spent many years as a miner at Bunker Hill and later at the Sunshine Mine, building a life rooted in dedication and resilience.

Bob married Mary Lou Ablutz in 1959. Though they divorced in 1991, they remained close friends, and Bob spent many holidays and quiet afternoons on the back porch with Mary Lou and her husband, Herb. After retiring, he cherished his home on the lake in Harrison, where he created countless memories with his daughters and grandchildren. An avid outdoorsman, Bob loved boating, fishing, camping, downhill and cross-country skiing, riding dirt bikes, and cycling the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes. He also took great joy in classic cars, rarely missing a car show and sharing stories about vintage automobiles with genuine enthusiasm.

Preceded in death by his parents and siblings Ron Wilbur, Kenny Wilbur, and Donna Longfellow, Bob is survived by his daughters, Pam (Leif) Sundstrom of Pinehurst, Idaho, and Kim Thompson of Post Falls, Idaho; grandchildren Tiffany Hyatt of Boise, Idaho, Jacob Thompson of Winston, Oregon, and Anika Sundstrom of Pinehurst, Idaho; great-grandchildren Zach Hyatt and Abby Hyatt; brothers Russ (Carolyn) Wilbur of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Jim Wilbur and Frank Wilbur of Big Timber, Montana; and ten nephews and five nieces.

He will be remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother who found his greatest peace in the natural beauty of the places he called home.
