Robert Raymond Maxwell

Robert Raymond Maxwell, Sr., a distinguished electrical engineer and retired rocket scientist at Lockheed Martin, passed peacefully on March 11, 2026, in Crumpler, West Virginia, the town where he was born on July 6, 1934. A respected figure in electrical engineering, he contributed his expertise to numerous projects that advanced the field of rocketry. He also worked for IBM for thirty years. Robert served honorably in the United States Army, and his values of duty and honor guided every aspect of his life.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Robert found great joy in sports and athletics. He played on a travel softball team, was an avid basketball player, and was known as an excellent poker player who often enjoyed games with his best friend, Fairly Hall. These pursuits brought him lasting camaraderie and happiness.

He is survived by his son, Robert Maxwell, Jr. of Crumpler, West Virginia, his daughter Tami Kay Shaheen of McDonough, New York, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Pat Hall and Virginia Nunnery, both of Crumpler, West Virginia. Robert was predeceased by his devoted wife, Anna Lee Maxwell, his parents, George and Alma Maxwell, and his best friend, Fairly Hall.
