Robert Neale Hoerle

1941 — 2026

Morgantown, WV

Robert Neale Hoerle passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026. Born on May 22, 1941, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to the late Edna Marie Crowley and William Neale Hoerle, he spent more than five decades serving commercial businesses throughout the tri-state area. Known affectionately as “the elevator man,” Robert installed and repaired elevators in power plants, mines, hospitals, and countless other buildings, earning the respect and gratitude of those he served.

A true Renaissance man and jack of all trades, Robert was always ready to lend a helping hand. Generous to a fault, he consistently placed the needs of others before his own, never allowing anyone to go without if he could prevent it. He was a passionate car enthusiast, a devoted student of history and military affairs, and held a deep and abiding respect for the men and women who serve in uniform.

Robert will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is survived by his wife, Dolly Hoerle; daughter, Dawna Knox and her husband, Andy; son, Neale Hoerle; grandson, Rijker Hoerle and his wife, Patience; beloved great-granddaughter, Phoebe; sister, Janice Treese and family; as well as half-brothers and half-sister, Bill Hoerle, Doug Hoerle, and Michelle Tanner, along with their respective families.
